Depression is feeling sad, blue, unhappy, down in the dumps for short periods of time. It seems as if all of us can say that we have had these short-term symptoms at one time or another, but did you know that true clinical depression is more prevalent in most areas of the country? Clinical depression is a mood disorder. Symptoms include sadness, loss, anger, or frustration that interfere with everyday life for a long period of time.
Clinical depression is usually treated with medication, and at times this is necessary to begin the healing process. The therapists at The Penewit Center have their own opinions about why depression starts to begin with. We begin with understanding what is going on in one's life and then finding where it is happening. Dr W H Penewit calls it "emotional overload", and treats this overload at the source. This is where "Temperament Therapy" comes in to play. Emotional overload happens when the patients temperament needs are not being met. Most often the patient tries to meet their temperament needs in a way that makes matters worse. Discovering what your temperament is allows your therapist to develop a plan to meet your needs in a positive way. Together we can find the way out.
